Although I am “Cancer Free,” I am still recovering from what my mind, body, and spirit went through. However, I know that one thing is apparent to me: I want to remain in the clear and heal my body through my daily actions.
And something I do every single day is EAT! We all do! But did you know the healing benefits of food and its role in your mood?
Yes! We are talking about food + mood! Who knew it was all connected?
One study found that people who consumed a Mediterranean diet for four years had lower rates of depression. In addition, the Mediterranean diet has been linked to lower rates of depression. This diet is high in fish, nuts, whole grains, and olive oil.
Listen to learn how your food is linked to your health!
With that specific diet in mind, here is what I load into my grocery cart when I am at Costco:
🌰Nuts + seeds are high in plant-based proteins and fiber. They contain tryptophan, an amino acid that helps serotonin production.
🥬Fermented foods help regulate the bacteria in your gut, which is also called your “second brain” because it is linked to your physical and mental wellbeing.
🐟Fatty fish, such as salmon, are rich in omega 3 fatty acids, which help prevent depression.
🍌Bananas have B6, which helps keep blood sugar stable and helps produce serotonin!
The main goal is to boost that feel-good stuff into my body, aka serotonin! It can impact mood, stress levels, and response. Your gut produces up to 90% of your serotonin.
