I know you know…I am so dang adamant about putting nutrient-rich food into my body! I truly believe food is the best medicine. So when I went shopping for fresh fish, I couldn’t wait to share a few tips/insights with you!
But before I dive into tips and insights on fish (Get it? Dive in?) First, I wanted to thank you for being a part of my community. It means the world to me to be able to share my mission.
Fish are high in omega-3 fatty acids that can protect you against cancer. In addition, their vitamins and minerals keep our bodies in balance (hello to potassium + selenium!)
And you might wonder if there is a difference between farmed fish and wild-caught fish – how they are born and raised can impact the texture and nutrients.
Wild-caught fish contain fewer carcinogens and dioxin (unfortunately, wild-caught and farmed fish risk having pollutants).
Wild fish also fight currents, so they build more strength and muscle. Another pro of wild-caught fish is the range of nutritional content they have due to a diet with variety!
A good thing to remember is that wild animals are impacted by plastic pollution, so when we consume them, we risk eating protein containing nano plastics.
Farmed fish tend to contain dye, especially salmon. They are fed a different diet than what a fish in the wild would eat, along with antibiotics (which can also enter your body if you eat the fish). They have higher saturated fat due to their altered diet.
My 2 cents? I prefer wild caught solely because of the nutritional value! I think that a fish that is in a healthy and natural environment provides more nutrients. What do you think?
Are you concerned about the price of fish? Buy frozen! I do it all the time. Seriously no nutrients lost!
